State Rep. Prince Chestnut awarded Wallace Community College Selma with $10,000 in grants last week.

Chestnut said the grants are from the State Executive Commission on Community Services Grants through the House Ways and Means Education Committee.

“I made a campaign promise to support institutions that prepared students for work. WCCS is a pillar in the community and the foremost collegial institution in Dallas County,” Chestnut said.

The awards will be split between two programs, Industrial Maintenance, and the new Apple Coding program.

Chestnut said workforce development and technical education is something he focused on when he campaigned.

“Many people leave WCCS ready to work and contribute to the local tax base,” Chestnut said. “I will continue to do my part in helping to provide opportunities for the local student population to succeed.”
