Wallace Community College Selma is committed to assisting all members of the community in providing for their own safety and security. The annual security crime report is available on the Campus Police webpage.  If you would like to receive a copy of the Annual Security Report that contains this information, you can stop by the Campus Police Department at 3000 Earl Goodwin Parkway, Selma, Alabama or you can request a copy be mailed to you by calling (334) 876-9248. The website and booklet contain information regarding campus security and personal safety including topics such as: crime prevention, university police law enforcement authority, crime reporting, policies, disciplinary procedures, ad other matters of importance related to security and safety on campus. They also contain information about crime statistics for reported crimes that occurred on campus; in certain off-campus buildings or property owned or controlled by WCCS; and public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus. This information is required by law and is provided by the WCCS Campus Police Department.

Wallace Community College Selma (WCCS) identifies, evaluates, and publishes goals and outcomes for student achievement appropriate to its mission, the nature of the students it serves, and the kinds of programs offered. WCCS's mission statement reads "The mission of Wallace Community College Selma is provide high-quality learning-centered educational opportunities and services through diverse instructional-delivery modes that are responsive to individual, community, state and global needs."

WCCS uses multiple measures to document student success. They are: course/degree completion, developmental education preparation, licensure pass rates, graduation/transfer rates. Thresholds for these indicators were established based on review of college data from the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS), data trends of students performances in the indicated areas, and comparison with peer institutions of similar demographics and size.

Course/Degree Completion


WCCS reviews course completion rates and monitor program completion data. The college realizes that is important to track course completion in order to determine if its students are making adequate progress in meeting its goal of increasing the number of degrees awarded. The Dean of Instruction reviews overall course completion data and based on a periodic review of student performance it has been established that the College will increase the course completion rate by least 5%. The table below represents the number of courses taken by students from 2018-2022 and the number of students receiving a passing grade.

Licensure Pass Rates


WCCS reviews Licensure and certification in preparing students for the workforce. State Licensing Examination results are considered when evaluating student success and achievement. Performance rates on state licensure examinations are evaluated annually to qualify technical programs for Perkins funds. Results of licensing examinations, including pass rates, are maintained by appropriate programs. Data are available for students in the Associate Degree in Nursing, Practical Nursing, Nursing Assistant, Phlebotomy EKG Technician. The criteria and the threshold for licensure outcome is consistent with the State of Alabama Board of Nursing established requirement which requires an 805 passage rate on licensure exams. WCCS' goal for Student Achievement and Success, is that the pass rate on licensure examinations will meet or exceed 80%. The Associate Degree and the Practical Nursing Programs of WCCS are approved by the Alabama Board of Nursing.

 Graduates of WCCS's Nursing programs take licensure exams. The percentage of students passing these exams is an indication of academic program effectiveness in preparing students to obtain the necessary credentials for employment.

The core of WCCS's mission is to provide high-quality educational opportunities and services that are responsive to individual, community, state, and global needs. Students who earn a career/technical credential are able to apply the knowledge, skills, and abilities to the workforce. In addition, WCCS transfer students are positioned to further their education at a four-year institution. Increasing the number of completers who are prepared for transfer or employment is key to our mission attainment. The college has identified that the measure of (8-year award) best represents the completion patterns of WCCS students.
