Wallace Community College Selma brought aspiring entrepreneurs together October 22, 2026, for the Launching Your Own Business workshop, offering an introduction to the planning and practical steps involved in starting a business.
Held in Room 112 of the Hank Sanders Technology Center, the noon workshop was conducted by Joshua Sahib, director of Auburn University's Lowder Center. The session connected participants with startup information and resources for exploring business ownership.
Joshua Sahib discusses business ownership.
Participants listen during the workshop.
Sahib's presentation, Launching Your Own Business: Actionable Tips for Starting Up, addressed business planning before moving through a series of startup considerations. Topics included choosing a business name and address, obtaining an employer identification number, comparing legal forms of business, and registering a limited liability company.
The presentation also covered business banking, insurance and licensing, giving participants an overview of the decisions that can accompany the move from an idea to a business. A scenario titled Iron Trail Welding provided a business example within the presentation.
Beyond startup logistics, Sahib included a discussion of entrepreneurship as a mindset and reasons to pursue business ownership. The workshop paired those broader themes with concrete topics participants could revisit through the presentation materials.
The presentation combines startup topics with examples for aspiring entrepreneurs.
The workshop takes place in the Hank Sanders Technology Center.
