WALLACE COMMUNITY COLLEGE SELMA HOLDS 2025 NURSING PINNING CEREMONY
Selma, AL — Wallace Community College Selma (WCCS) proudly celebrated the accomplishments of its Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) graduates during the 2025 Pinning Ceremony, held Tuesday, May 6, at 10:00 a.m. in the Earl Goodwin Theatre on the Selma campus.
The ceremony honored over 40 graduating nursing students for their dedication, perseverance, and commitment to excellence in healthcare. The Pinning Ceremony, a time-honored tradition in nursing programs nationwide, signifies the transition from student to professional nurse.
Dr. Pearlie Miller, Director of Health Sciences Programs, welcomed guests, followed by an opening prayer from Dr. Jacqueline Moultrie. Dr. Tracey Shannon, Associate Dean of Nursing Education, introduced the ceremony’s keynote speaker, Dr. Tiffany Brown Ervin, Co-Director of the BSN Pathway (Senior Level) at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Dr. Ervin shared words of inspiration and encouragement, highlighting nurses' vital role in advancing patient care and community well-being.
Graduate Te’Airea Coleman offered heartfelt reflections on the cohort’s shared journey, perseverance, and calling to serve others. Mr. Dale Bell, Associate Program Director of Comprehensive Community Development, presented four honorees with a special Mission Fellowship Pinning: Emma Burton Davis, Jasmine Jackson, Shabria Lake, and Zarquashia Taylor.
Dr. Lynnette Hall and Dr. Sarah Davis, nursing program faculty members, led the official pinning and presentation of graduates. The ceremony also featured a symbolic candle lighting by Ms. Kaylin Jordan and Mrs. Deborah Lumpkin and the recitation of the Nightingale Pledge by Mrs. Angelina Chestnut.
Dr. Tammie Briggs, Dean of Instruction, and Dr. James M. Mitchell, President of Wallace Community College Selma, delivered closing remarks. The event concluded with a joyful recessional as the newly pinned nurses exited to the applause of family, faculty, and community supporters.
