Wallace Community College Selma Hosts Technical Luncheon and Expo to Strengthen Industry Partnerships and Showcase Career Pathways
Selma, AL – Wallace Community College Selma (WCCS) welcomed industry leaders, educational partners, and workforce development professionals to its campus today for the Technical Luncheon and Expo, a strategic event designed to highlight the college’s technical programs and strengthen community and employer partnerships.
The event featured a robust agenda, beginning with a welcome from WCCS President Dr. James M. Mitchell, followed by remarks from Dr. Donitha Griffin, Dean of Students, on the purpose of the luncheon, to bridge the gap between education and employment by aligning technical education with workforce needs.
Presentations were delivered by key leaders, including:
- Mr. Calvin Griffin, Assistant Dean of Instruction, who discussed WCCS’s workforce development initiatives,
- Ms. Matilda Williams, Chair of the Technical Department, highlighting hands-on training programs,
- Dr. Marilyn Hannah, Chair of Business and Computer Science,
- Dr. Tracey Shannon and Dr. Pearlie Miller, who showcased Allied Health offerings, and
- Ms. Maxxine Sturdivant, Director of Adult Education, who presented the Alabama Career Essentials (ACE) program.
The event concluded with a roundtable discussion and Q&A session led by Ms. Wanda Salone, Job Placement Coordinator, who emphasized the College’s dedication to preparing students for real-world success.
More than 20 businesses and agencies attended, including representatives from Bush Hog, Alabama Power, Henry Brick, Selma Housing Authority, Drax, Spectrum, NACA, ACCS, Surge Staffing, and several economic development organizations from Dallas, Marengo, and Greene Counties. These partners engaged directly with WCCS faculty and staff to explore student training pipelines, apprenticeship opportunities, and hiring partnerships.
“This event is more than a showcase, it’s a commitment,” said Dr. Mitchell. “WCCS is committed to developing programs that respond directly to the needs of our workforce partners. When our students succeed, so does Selma and the region.”
