WCCS Faculty and Staff Win Campus Kickball Game Against Students

Friendly competition filled the front lawn at Wallace Community College Selma on Tuesday, Sept. 22, as technical students faced faculty and staff in a campus kickball game. Faculty and staff claimed the victory with a final score of 9-2.
Wanda Salone, R.P.E.D. Job Placement Coordinator at WCCS, said the college sponsored the game "to improve student engagement and to get them active on campus."
"We want to help them succeed in life, and we want to make sure that they get that foundation here at Wallace Community College Selma," Salone said. "We're building bridges, and that's what Dr. Griffin says all the time."

Although faculty and staff controlled the scoreboard, the students kept the competition playful. "Y'all won because we let y'all win," one technical student joked before challenging the faculty and staff team to a rematch.
The student invited the opposing team to "send a flyer out" when they are ready to play the students again.
WCCS employees serve free food to students and other attendees following the kickball game.
The event also included food and entertainment, giving students and employees time to connect beyond the competition. Salone described the event as a huge success and said the goal was to help students get the best possible start at WCCS.

The kickball game supported the college's continuing effort to help students become more involved on campus, build relationships and create a strong foundation for success.
